How even a basic gps reciever is worth having

Map reading and navigation are always left to me and Alan when we go out on trips and hillwalking guys, usually either in the Lake District in Cumbria, or somewhere in the mountains of Scotland. No doubt, every member of our party, these skills must be advanced. Unfortunately this does not happen, so the problem is usually submitted to us to sort out the two! Even using the basic etrex GPS receiver can save your life if you get lost in the Cairngorm Mountains of Scotland.
